Song Birds

Chrissee performed a duet in a competition at her high school this week.  She and her friend, Megan, pulled it together through music composition issues (Megan sings tenor), lost accompianists, scheduling issues and Chrissee's wardrobe (everything she owned was "too flamboyant" for this conservative competition for classical musicians only.)

On the day of the competition, Megan was so nervous, she began the first "round" with the lyrics from the second verse, but Chrissee came in with the right words and they didn't miss a beat or show (musically) that there were any mistakes.  She was worried, but I told her they did exactly the right thing.

Her other friend, Cami, didn't realize she needed to be dressed in something other than street clothes to keep her grade.  In a stroke of genius panic, Chrissee grabbed a t-shirt and marching band overalls from the Band Room and quickly changed out of her dress so Cami (who is several inches taller and quite a bit thinner) could wear the simple black velvet dress and belt Chrissee had found at Savers for $3.  When the choir director saw them in the halls (Chrissee in a half-marching band uniform and Cami wearing a very familiar looking dress), he just shook his head, looked at Cami and said, "Lucky."  Very lucky.  What an awesome friend Chrissee is!

Yesterday, Megan and Chrissee found out that they scored so well they are progressing on to the Weber County level of the Competition.  If they make it all the way, there's a very pretty scholarship involved. (Chrissee wasn't allowed to apply for any scholarships this year because her advisor wouldn't change her status from junior to senior until AFTER all of the scholorship deadlines had passed.  This is a sore spot for me because I know she would have blown them all out of the water!)

I'm really impressed with my little song bird in using her musical training even though she wasn't ever the choir teacher's pet and showing him just what she could do... Well done ladies!
