With only two little ones in the house during Girls' Camp week, James and I decided to have a little "kid friendly" adventure at the zoo. The older girls have "been there, done that" and the zoo isn't the sort of place you buy a season pass for (although they do sell them.) The camera wasn't fast enough to capture all of the wide-eyed wonder expressed or some of the fears demonstrated, but here's the day in random pieces...
The water fountains at the Hogle Zoo are all shaped like this. If you're a little kid who's afraid of sticking your head in the lion's mouth, you have to be very thirsty to try it. Gabrie was one of those little kids ... the picture above was taken at the END of the day when she knew it was her last chance to face her fear (and it took a couple of minutes.)
This is Samuel at the beginning of the day. A little uncertain, but he did drink.

Elephants like to reach for their food, I guess. Baby Zuri is tired in the late afternoon.
"Awesome!!" Gabriella cried at the sight of some monkeys swinging in their cages.
The giraffes are very tall. So tall, in fact, that they need a two story building. Gabrie spent some time talking about their make-up and beauty routine with fellow zoo-goers, pointing out their looooong lashes.
James and Gabrie take turns comparing themselves to the gorilla family.
