An Adventure for Two

After our family fun, James and Rebecca decided we should fill up his whole day off with adventure. The two left the five in good hands and set out without any definate plans. The budget being what it is, we induldged in an Orange Julius for two and began spinning ideas. Walking the mall is one of Rebecca's least favorite things to do for multiple reasons, so, we landed in the car and on our way to "try something we'd never done before." We ended up on our way to Promontory Point - the location of the meeting of the transcontinental railroad. What a drive! The time noted at the end of our O.J. and the beginning of our journey.

Highway 13 - the road needed to reach Promontory Pt. - runs through a little town called Corinne. Rebecca asked James to take a little tour through town. This little pink house is one Rebecca's family rented, most memorable for the hallway floor leading to the bedrooms, every step of which seemed to follow the dips and rises of the ground beneath it.

Another of the homes we rented in Corinne. Rebecca remembers nursing a cat run over by a car in the driveway and running with her best friend Amber to the river and riding horses together.

The Post Office near the bus stop. Rebecca remembered this building being smaller. It turned out that the City Counsel building was the tinier one!

Memories of that first stop away from the sea for a California girl.

Check it out! We made it. After hours, of course.

The railroad does stretch on and on...

Sitting on the final railroad tie...

After the Golden Spike monument, we noticed a sign for the Spiral Jetty (a rock sculpture in the Great Salt Lake). It said 21 miles and we decided to go for it.

By this time it was 8:30ish and we were racing against the sun on a poorly marked gravel road full of rocks.

We made it!

Our long walk out told us we hadn't actually made it. We didn't know if we'd reached the beginning of a second spiral or what, but the light was almost gone.

And we walked back to the car exhilirated by the mystery, the crazy drive, and the salty lake air. The road was even crazier in the darkness coming back, full of jackrabbits and eagles, but entirely stripped of the moon.
