Much Ado About Nothing

Beatrice (Daelynn) overhears the shocking news that she is too cold to deserve Benedict's love

Our 7th grade literature teachers add a little extra to their section on Shakespeare.  They know that "the play is the thing" that will help students understand the meaning behind English spoken centuries ago.  Every year, four classes of Literature students work together to produce one of Shakespeare's funniest for the stage.  It is an intimate gathering, with just enough bleachers and chairs placed right on the stage -- there are no microphones needed and everyone can see every facial expression (the intentional and those brought on my nerves or forgotten lines.)

Two years ago, Bethany won the roll of Leonato, father of Hero, and surprised us all with her ability to portray a father's passionate anger, love and disappointment.  This year, Daelynn won a roll as Beatrice.  She did a splendid job of portraying this sharp tongued maiden as she sparred with Senior Benedict.  I wish you could have all been there!  Dancing, sword fighting, betrayal, death and redemption -- not to mention pure fun.  Please enjoy this short clip where Benedict has just overheard Leonato, Claudio and Don Pedro's deceptive con that causes his heart to turn toward Beatrice who has been sent bring him to dinner:
