During quiet time today (just as Rebecca was preparing to close her eyes for a nap) there was whailing from downstairs and a call for a band-aid. But, it turned out the bandage would not be enough. The two inch long gash across Gabriella's knee was gaping open into depths of underskin Rebecca had never seen. The older girls quickly told the story of Gabriella tripping on this square, metal computer part and it somehow kicking forward on the floor under her knee. The edges of the currently unknown piece of hardware are of a thin, strong metal. Rebecca took one look at the computer part and the gaping red hole in Gabriella's knee, grabbed her purse and keys, cradled Gabriella in her arms, and dashed out the door without bothering to wash it out or make a phone call.
Apparently, this is the right course of action when someone has been wounded to these depths. The nurse and the doctor were very nervous to make the attempt because Gabriella was nervous and awfully strong. Rebecca leaned over Gabriella's belly so she could hug her and talked about Dora and Diego the whole time. Gabriella instantly calmed down and told Rebecca all about the humback whales and the deer that couldn't pull Santa's sleigh...
Six stitches later, Gabriella was much happier... we'll see how long that lasts after the numbing stuff wears off.

The first thing she said when I walked in the door was, "I'm feeling much better now." What a little trooper. :o)
ReplyDeleteThats cuz she was still numb. But, she really is a trooper. We're having a slow day today, hot on the heels of a rough night last night, but she's got a good attitude. :)
