Maybe it was the scattered rain showers. Maybe it was not having anyone to drive taxi for. Maybe it was just me being all sorts of assertive after the botched family activities near the tail end of the week.
Whatever it was, my fingernails are still stained around the edges in food coloring. Our walls are full of brand new paintings. My little ones are wearing home sewn pajamas ("Mommie, you forgot to sew in the tag!"). There are new shelves in the back of the cold storage area (phase one: don't ask me where I have all of the stuff that was helter-skelter right now, but, as a hint, there will be no movie nights on the big screen until this project is complete). Gryffindor, Slytherin, and the other Hogwarts Houses are becoming permanent fixtures in Chrissee's world. Our neighbor, Shirley, has both of her two favorite articles of clothing all patched up and mended and ready to go. We found a new M&M cookie recipe (who knew 2 TBSP of vanilla could be delicious?) And, even though the milk is gone and there are only 6 slices of bread for the day, I feel content instead of panicked.
