How long have you been together? Five-and-a-half years.How long did you know each other before you started dating? We met at work, in September and had our first date in November.
Who asked who out? Officially, that was Rebecca, but James made the first move by getting her number from work and calling her on the phone. Rebecca's brother, John, worked for KSL and had offered free entrance to a concert in SLC that night and James accepted the invitation.
Where was your first date? The Stardust Room. It's a bar. But, we didn't know that before we got there. James felt uncomfortable with his CTR ring on and Rebecca told him to take it off. He didn't and they ended up walking around downtown SLC. Rebecca was her silly self thinking that would scare James off, but it didn't.
Are you from the same hometown? No. But Rebecca's grandparents and James' family attended the same LDS ward in Colton, California. (Not that anyone knew that until the reception.) James was pretty surprised to find that he'd traveled all the way to Utah to find a California Girl after all.
What are your middle names? Alma and Lynn. But, we don't plan on going by those like Rebecca's Grandma Bert.
Do you have any children? Have you been reading this blog?! When pregnant with Samuel, Rebecca would say he was her sixth, their fifth, and James' second.
What about pets? We're sort of the accidental pet owners. Chip the cat was a gift to Bethany way back when Rebecca was divorced and neither she nor the ex could have animals. Granmere to the rescue! Now that we live together, Chip is Bethany's again (he even sleeps in her bed) and Granmere owns two dogs (Jake & Bandit) and another cat (Sarah).
Who is the most sensitive? This isn't a fair question, really. Everyone has their own individual stress buttons and ways of handling those things.
Who has the worst temper? Again, not really a fair question. Rebecca is much more forthcoming about her anger and/or frustrations. James keeps his bottled longer when he can.
Where do you eat out most as a couple? Tona's on Historic 25th Street. James is NOT brave when it comes to food. Rebecca enjoyed sushi nights out with the girls so much that he decided to try it. (Tony, the owner, shops at James' grocery store and convinced him to start small.) James actually craves sushi now. James and Rebecca have to have a sort of "pre-sushi" agreement so they know in advance just how many rolls they can try that night! Tona's is the BEST.
Who does the cooking? Rebecca. Very rarely, James will put his hands in - like his perfect pancakes and biscuits. Occasionally, Chrissee, Bethany, or Daelynn take care of KP duty.
Who is more social? Rebecca. Hands down. And it can be a source of strain on the relationship.
That may be because she is also a shameless flirt! But, probably, that has nothing to do with it.
Who is the neat-freak? Right now, with all of the stress and school schedules - neither of us. And it shows. Rebecca really prefers a clean and organized space, but it's difficult to keep up with everyone and everyone doesn't always keep up.
Who is the more stubborn? Equally so.
Who hogs the bed? James.
Who wakes up earlier? Usually, Rebecca. She's a lark. James is an owl. But, student teaching schedules for James and late-night cartography for Rebecca have made this different. And, this too is showing.
Who has the bigger family? James. He's the second of seven. Rebecca is the eldest of five.
Are flowers a regular gift? James promised Rebecca "two-lips" everyday, so there are lots of kisses. There were lots of bouquets the first few years as well, but that has waned. Right now there are some faded roses on the mantle from Valentine's Day though.
How do you spend the holidays? So far, together.
Who sings better? Rebecca has this gift, but James sings with spirit and isn't that what matters?
Who eats more? Unless it's pizza - Rebecca does. Just kidding!
Who does the laundry? Rebecca. She once threatened James into doing his own, but he let the dirty laundry pile up into a fire escape hazard. And it's one less thing to fight over. Of course, Rebecca still expects James to put the clean laundry away.
Who takes out the garbage? This depends on chore rotation. But, James doesn't do it.
Who's better with the computer? James. The computer is in love with him. Any time Rebecca has a problem, she can trouble shoot for hours doing exactly as previously shown and nothing happens until James touches the keys. The computer perks right up every time.
Who drives when you are together? We take turns. Rebecca really loves a stick shift.
Who eats more sweets? James. But, Rebecca has been eating more and more since they were married - a habit she will have to break to force her immune system to function again.
Favorite date night? Anything. Rebecca loves dancing. James enjoys movies. With five kids, usually "date night" is running errands and buying groceries.
Favorite TV show to watch together? Nothing. They don't own a TV.
The couple these two will grow old like? Oh, please! We'll never be old.
