Firsts

When children pass a certain point, "first" milestones are fewer and farther between. But, I think they're still worth noting:

Christianna: first time creating a budget and saving up for a "big ticket" item all by herself, first time flying on a plane without her family, first passport stamp, first time crossing "the pond" (otherwise known as the Atlantic OCEAN), first time singing Irish Pub songs, first time being sung "happy birthday" to by a celebrity (her own Peter Pan), first time watching the World Cup, first time traveling to a big city all by herself using the transit system/getting lost/and finding her way back again, first time touching the burial tomb of a king... you know, that kind of stuff. We haven't even seen all of her 5000 pictures yet. But, she had an incredible time and returned with more poise and grace than she left with.

Bethany: first time stressing over money (she is saving up for a mission and figured out how much she will need to put away between now and her 19th birthday), first girl's night out without any parents, first time walking out of a movie because it was *so* bad, first time listening to President Uchtdorf speak in the Dee Events Center (but not the first time her cute face has made the news), first time buying her own shoes, first sunburn bad enough to blister her lips, and first time driving there and back again in the middle of the night. She is so responsible and respectful in laying out her plans and living her life...even in her complete and total disdain for me (something that I hope doesn't last forever, but, here we go).

Daelynn: first "real" job, first paycheck, first bank account, first wallet, first purse, first time receiving a rose and a "you're beautiful" from a stranger at work, first time standing up to friends to tell them they are being un-Christlike with a "non-member" friend...all right, this is probably not her first time, but I want it noted and to say how much I admire her as a defender of truth, justice, and Heavenly Father's ways.

Gabriella: first cursive signature, first marshmallow gun, first time calling me from a friend's house because she memorized my number to ask if she could stay for lunch, first time she wore shoes that were too small for her all day (not a proud mom moment, really...she's growing so fast!), first full load of dishes, and first time singing one of her songs to someone other than family.

Samuel: first time catching a dragonfly, first time petting a bumble bee, first marshmallow gun, first time burying a pet -- with an actual shovel and a prayer over the grave, first time he didn't mind a hair cut, first time painting his fingernails (probably the last since he double checked with me if that's something "boys" do).

Growing happens every day! (Remember the song from Barney?) I still wish I were here to see all of it, but am so thankful I am part of this family in whatever way I can get it. We hope you're enjoying all of your firsts too!
